Coming down off the ledge

February 9, 2009February 27, 2009 Mark Ladouceur3 Comments

So I've had my misconceptions about giving away my short fiction online corrected. Thanks to the friends who commented on my last post.  Good short fiction is still worth being paid for. And it is. I've just had a lackluster record in being paid for mine. Most of the previous post came from listening to… Continue reading Coming down off the ledge →

Writing update

February 7, 2009February 27, 2009 Mark Ladouceur5 Comments

Since my last writing-related entry I've finished first drafts for a short story and a novelette. Now though, as the pro market suffers a sudden bout of shrinkage I've been wondering how much effort I should be putting into it. I expect, though I'm no expert, that it means unprecedented competition from new/relatively unpublished authors like… Continue reading Writing update →

Company Car developments

October 10, 2008February 27, 2009 Mark LadouceurLeave a comment

Sad, but Storyteller magazine, to which I sold my story "The Company Car" is no longer there. I confirmed that it closed-up shop. I appeared in what was the last issue.Oh well, this is the chance you take with smaller magazines. I received my cheque and my three contributor copies, and the magazine went out… Continue reading Company Car developments →

OMG, I killed it.

No, I doubt it was me, but the web site for Storyteller magazine, to which I sold my story "The Company Car" is no longer there. I'm checking to see if this is temporary or not. If it is then I appeared in what was probably the last issue.

Performing my civic duties

September 17, 2008February 27, 2009 Mark LadouceurLeave a comment

About ten minutes after sitting down at my desk this morning I received a call from my friend on the regional police force asking me a very important question: "How'd you like to come have free alcohol?" Never one to shirk my civic duty, I said, "Hell yes." The police needed test subjects to come… Continue reading Performing my civic duties →

world not ending

September 10, 2008July 10, 2013 Mark Ladouceur2 Comments

So the LHC didn't destroy the world. Guess that means we all have to go back to work or school tomorrow (or in some people's case more muffin baking, napping, and clashing with cats).

cheque in hand

September 3, 2008February 27, 2009 Mark Ladouceur1 Comment

Well I have the cheque from Storyteller in hand, which is nice. I can now go get a pint down at the local. Sadly the site is not updated yet, which means no one can actually order copies of the issue, which is depressing. Time to start looking for reprint markets.

The Company Car in print!

August 11, 2008February 27, 2009 Mark LadouceurLeave a comment

Received my contributor copies of The Company Car on Friday, just in time to show it off to friends and family. It looks good, and I'm quite happy to have my copies in hand.
