I recently had the pleasure of attending a reading by science fiction author Julie Czerneda at the Leacock museum in Orillia Ontario, Julie's current hometown. This is actually the second reading she's done here, the first being last August when she won two Aurora Awards; one for her novel In the Company of Others, and… Continue reading Reading in Orillia
Writing update
Met with Rob Sawyer to go over a short story. He's currently Writer in Residence at the Merrill Collection of the Toronto Public Library. He read a short story I had been working on and gave me a good critique. Before I left I ran an idea past him. I was thinking of working on… Continue reading Writing update
Another writing weekend
Spent the weekend up north working on the book. Made some good progress on the book. Got another twenty pages done.
Writing weekend
Spent the weekend at the cottage writing; a very productive two days. Made about 40 pages of progress.
Ad Astra 2003
Went to Ad Astra, a regional science fiction convention over the past weekend. It's the sixth year in a row that I've gone and it's always inspiring to get together with so many other writers.
Things are looking up so far
Went out for lunch with Rob Sawyer to pick his brain on publishing and writing. I took a class from him in 1997 when he taught at Ryerson. It was very informative and an interesting conversation. All I have to do is put it to work.

A number of other readers have come back with their comments. The response has been very positive. I've come up… Continue reading So far so good
December recap
Well the course finished, thank God. On to some writing. I started consolidating the notes for the book finally. Started rereading it too. Good to get a sense of things again after being away since September. Some things really need changing, and boy it reads choppy at first, but it holds up fairly well. Got… Continue reading December recap
Slow, slow, slow
Another two crappy months for writing. I finished the course at least. I really got nothing done. In trying to procrastinate studying and doing the readings for the course I would piss away my time playing computer games. Nice, eh? I should have been writing if I wasn't going to be studying. Story of my… Continue reading Slow, slow, slow
DVD double dip
It's early November and as I'm writing this I'm looking forward to buying the Special Edition of the Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring (an extended version). I already have the version released in August this year (which had the version shown in theaters) and so now I'll have two versions of the… Continue reading DVD double dip
