As part of some recent professional development, I’ve had to do some self-evaluation. And what it made me realize was how little time I spend reflecting on an experience to figure out what I can learn from it. I work at something, keeping my head down and powering through and at the end move on to the next thing. I really don’t take the time I should to figure out what I liked about the book I just read, the movie I just watched, the game I just played.
That plays into writing in that figuring out what I really liked about stories by some of my favourite writers, and how I can learn from them will help me develop my skill. I can’t help thinking that this is something I really should have worked on earlier, but that’s me. And it’s never too late to start.
