Do you write to music? If so what do you like when putting the hammer to anvil and smithing words? Something loud or soft, vocal or not?
On whole, I like non-vocal music, and most often pieces from soundtracks. Since they’re cinematic, they fit the mood I’m trying to put myself in. What genre I’m writing in dictates a lot of my choice. I pull music mostly from science fiction or fantasy movies, so various Star Trek, Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Battlestar Galactica selections are frequent choices. Basil Poledouris’ score for Conan the Barbarian is also fun to have on. Lately though, my go-to choice is the collection of music from the Mass Effect video game.
